About RHMIS

This System envisages empowering of field level health workers with mobile/handheld based data collection. It improves their health care delivery activities. A centralized server is used for storing the collected data in a central database and its analysis using statistical methods. This will serve as input to health planning and decision making at higher levels of the DHS. The pilot implementation of the system is undertaken in Tirur Taluk, Malappuram District, Kerala

A project of Media Lab Asia developed by C-DAC(T) and implemented at 20 locations (PHCs/CHCs/BPHCs) at Tirur Taluk of Malappuram district.

Features of RHMIS

Web based system which provides timely data flow from health worker to Directorate of Health Services
Mobile/Handheld devices are used for data collection ensuring accurate, relevant and up-to-date data flow to the higher authorities
It stores collected health data in a central database server which could serve as a health information database
It has the facility of name based follow up of Antenatal and Postnatal Care, Family Welfare, Child Immunization, Communicable and Non Communicable diseases etc
It is also useful for work plan and alerts for health workers/ASHA workers for the early identification and timely referral of high risk Ante Natal cases
The system is useful for timely and accurate reports to the health administrative for decision making
The reports generation is based on standard as well as customizable formats including graphical reports
It reduces infant mortality rates by improving immunization rate.
Reduces the burden of manual record keeping by staff at the field and higher levels
The system can be used for other purposes like different national programs like Malaria Control Program, TB Control Program, Communicable and Non Communicable disease Control Program, Immunization, Antenatal and Post Natal care Program, Family Planning Program and Population Survey, researches, census, surveys etc
Security constraints are used for the data confidentiality
The system provides improved quality and a wide coverage of health care services.

Scope of RHMIS

Set up a Central Health Management Information Server for storing all data and application
Provide necessary hardware at the Sub centers, PHCs, CHCs and BPHCs and link them to the Central Health Information Server
Develop Handheld device application for capturing data from the field level
Develop software for integrated HMIS based on open source solution
Implement a pilot, rural health management information system
